For Ellie and Bella 50th Wedding anniversary - 1999
Dearest Ellie and Bella a missive from THREE GENERATIONS of KAPELUSES, Esther and Ivan; Leora, Ilan, Marcelle AND SUZANNE.
Oh, how all of us wish we could be with you on this wonderful occasion! Instead we have asked David to read this missive to you at your celebration.
Firstly from Esther:
In every family there are special relationships - relationships which transcend differences in age and the relationship of linear descent, when the caring, love and concern go beyond that of Uncle and Aunt. That has been my relationship with you ever since I was a flower girl at your wedding fifty years ago.
In the early years of my life we lived in Upington. Whenever I travelled to Cape Town to stay with Bobba and Zeida, it was you, Ellie and Bella, who made the effort to spend quality time with Doreen, Ann and me. You that took us out, entertained us and in fact spoilt us rotten.
When, as a teenager I came to school in Cape Town staying with Granny and Zeida before the rest of the family relocated it was you who devoted the same time and effort to make me feel at home. The support, constant encouragement that you and Bella have given me during my illness has been a constant inspiration to me.
Next from Ivan:
In 1964 I, Ivan, as a young student at Stellenbosch hailing from Van Rhynsdorp entered the picture. As my relationship with Esther blossomed I spent more and more of my time in Cape Town. How well I remember my visits to 1 Scholtz Road. How vividly I remember YOUR visits to Scholtz Road to spend time with Bobba and Zeida and how you the Hotz/Broude family accepted me as one of your own. It was during these visits that I too formed my special relationship with you. Your interest in my studies and then my career, your advice and unquestioned support was always there without being foisted on me. It was then that I saw the devotion and love both of you showed your parents. This served as an inspiration to Esther and me. So it was with great joy that we could have you, Ellie and Bella, under the chupa with us as Esther's unterferers.
The same closeness, love and caring which we feel for you, Ellie and Bella, is shared and felt by our children. It would be unthinkable for Leora, Ilan or Marcelle to be in Cape Town and not enjoy time with you.
Next - first words from Suzanne:
I'm REALLY sorry that Mummy and Daddy, Bobba and Zaida can't be with you for this special celebration because I was late! Mummy and Daddy say that it's not polite to be late! So I'll really try to be on time when meeting you early in the next millenium - it's something we are all really looking forward to.
Finally - from the whole Kapelus Clan:
Ellie and Bella, your ready smiles. Your quick witticisms. Your warm hospitality. Your unstinting support and generosity, particularly to your family, make you the very special people that you are.
A very hearty mazeltov on having reached this wonderful milestone together.
All our love,
Esther, Ivan, Leora, Ilan, Marcelle and Suzanne Kapelus.
